Winter Outfit Ideas

If you’re starting to look at your closet with the same level of enthusiasm as a Tinder date, it’s time for an intervention. Luckily, climbing out of a sartorial rut is a lot easier than navigating the dating landscape. All you have to do is tap a new source of inspiration. It’s that easy. So whether you’re in the mood to try a new style or you just want to find out different ways to wear the clothes you already have, we’ve rounded up cute winter outfits to copy all month long, courtesy of our favorite style influencers.

Don't be afraid to double up, especially when it's freezing outside. For best results, try one shorter (and lightweight) jacket under a longer, heavier one. That way you won't be adding too much bulk underneath your winter coat. (Also, layering a luxe, statement-lapel jacket over a sporty, utilitarian one creates cool tension.)

We love the vibrancy of this safety orange winter outfit. Match an animal-print midi skirt to an equally bold coat, cover your gams in (neutral) knee-high boots. Any white top will do, but if it's got fun lace accents and unexpected sporty striping, all the better.

Again, the trick to wearing this many layers is to start paper-thin and build up to puffy. A sheer mesh top contrasts nicely with a striped A-line shirtdress; classic straight-leg denim grounds the look. Make sure your topmost layer hits above the hemline of your dress, lest you swallow its silhouette.

When the snow begins to fall and all sartorial bets are off, only your accessories — reflective aviators, fun socks peeking out from beneath studded boots — will save you. Also, this is how to wear leggings without looking like you got lost on your way to the gym.

Model Paloma Elsesser demonstrates the power of a good beret. Pair the French girl accessory everyone will be rocking this winter with a (cropped, if you dare) sweater, matching paperbag-waist pants and a shiny statement coat. Alternatively, wear it the Chloe Sevigny-slash-Blair Waldorf way (read: brogues, knee-high bobby socks, checkered A-line mini, collared blouse, cashmere sweater, belted coat).

Break up the monotony of your classic winter coat by OD’ing on embellishments and prints. Leandra Medine’s chinoiserie maxi is striking yet neutral, allowing her to play with color and prints up top and westernize the look with a pair of on-trend tan cowboy boots. Pro tip: In times of beanies and bundling, standout earrings are always a welcome touch.

Yep, overalls are still happening. Just ask fashion editor Julia Sarr-Jamois. Wear yours with a bold button-down and the biggest, baddest shades you can find.

Blogger, designer and fashion consultant Gilda Ambrosio can work a pair of basic "mom jeans" like nobody's business. The key lies in a pair of high heels and one to two statement pieces, like a leather jacket underneath your overcoat.

Update an everyday oversized sweater, like fashion blogger Charlotte Groeneveld, by layering it over a pleated midi skirt. This is an easy winter outfit to dress up or down, depending on your accessories. For really cold days, try bobby socks or tights with your heels.                                                                                                                                                                                                  by Cordelia Tai
