Design Tips

Hiring a Designer:
My advice would be to work with an interior designer for planning a remodel or furnishing a new house. The best scenario is a design team that includes both an interior designer and an architect working together on the project.
Colors:
Complementary colors work well together. When used in an interior setting they should be used in equal amounts and equal tone or intensity.
Harmonious colors on the other hand are the colors next to one another on the color wheel.
Natural light - Skylights:
Skylights add drama and ambience when light streams in from above. You may face some limitations as to the placement of the skylight. If it cannot be centered in the space, using two skylights sometimes works better.
Stone:
Natural stone is one of the very popular stones right now. Like everything else there are pros and cons to all materials and you should use the material you really love and that works for you even if it isn't the most popular.
Glass:
Glass is much more commonly used now and brings light into a room, whether in partitions, walls, as a mirror, vase, or a collection of wine glasses.
