Green Design Summit

Green Design Summit
Sponsorship Information
June 29 & 30, 2009

What is the Green Design Summit

The Green Design Summit is a virtual conference that requires no travel. Architects and Interior Designers (A + D) learn the benefits and best practices of designing with sustainable choices and receive marketing materials to promote their businesses.

They attend the two day webcast summit series from the convenience of their offices or homes.

By the end of the two-day, 12-speaker summit, attendees have strategies and tools to promote their new green design knowledge and build their businesses, information to reduce the environmental impact of their design decisions, and awareness and goodwill about your company's products so they can specify them in their projects.

This event is uniquely carbon neutral, and your company will be associated with a cutting-edge conference. 12 world-class speakers educate and inspire the A + D community and help them stay in business and be more profitable during tough economic times.

The goodwill is priceless, the cost is efficient and your audience is perfectly targeted to your products and services.

We can, as a team of specifiers and suppliers, impact the global community by our leadership and commitment to sustainable design.

5% of all proceeds go to Greensburg, Kansas to rebuild public buildings in the model green town they are rebuilding. Greensburg was 95% destroyed in the May 4, 2007 tornado, and just two days after the devastating event, they decided to inspire the world to build and live green.

What inspired the creation of the Green Design Summit?

Gail's and Erin's awareness and commitment to environmental issues goes back to their childhoods.

Gail grew up with a mother who was a green advocate in the 50s. Her mother was an RN, with a degree in Chemistry and a Masters degree in Bacteriology. She grew up in the Depression, and learned conservation of resources at an early age.

Gail's mother also had severe chemical sensitivities and a pioneering attitude about environmental responsibility. Gail and her sister grew up using natural and biodegradable products, helping with organic gardening, planting trees, conserving electricity and water in their home.

Erin believes that to live green you must appreciate the entire offering available from nature.

She was raised in the agricultural community of Eastern Colorado and it was there that she learned the unsaid lessons about appreciation for nature, life, blessings and the miraculous ways that something can come out of nothing. Erin's family raised dryland wheat, corn and cattle.

Erin enjoyed harvest and operated the combine for her Father's harvesting crew. "We used the corn stalks to feed our animals, the wheat straw for animal bedding, and the manure for our flower gardens." Erin's family believes that by giving back to nature perpetuates life and for this reason, their fields lay fallow for a season to replenish the earth.

During a trip to Los Angeles, Erin and Gail met with Lisa Foster, Founder of 1 Bag at a Time, a renewable bag company. During the conversation with Lisa, the idea for the Green Design Summit emerged as a vehicle to educate the A + D community, empower them to lead their clients in responsible and sustainable decisions, and give them hope to rebuild their businesses after the devastation of the recession.

Consumer demand for environmental responsibility, and the government's commitment to "green the economy" creates an amazing opportunity for you and the A + D community to stage a comeback. It makes economic and business sense to learn as much as possible about sustainability and green design through continuing education.

Mission of the Green Design Summit

  • Educate Architects and Interior Designers worldwide about their role in incorporating sustainability in their design projects. Sponsors connect with targeted specifiers that can promote their products and add to the sponsor's sales and bottom line profits.
  • Encourage continuous education in sustainable design, personal and business responsibility toward reducing, reusing and recycling in each practitioner's own home, business and in their client's projects.
  • Motivate Architects and Interior Designers to educate their clients and to broaden the knowledge about sustainability and responsible material, finish and furniture choices.
  • Impact our environment significantly by promoting responsible design decisions.
  • Give back to a worthy cause - help Greensburg, Kansas continue rebuilding a model green community after the devastating tornado that destroyed 95% of the town and killed 11 people.

Benefits of Sponsorship

  1. Bottom Line - The Green Design Summit gives your company global reach while offering a person-to-person opportunity. These specifically targeted attendees are the ones that specify and promote your products. Each Architect and Interior Designer who has the opportunity to specify will now be thinking of you because they want to do business with a company that shares their values.
  2. Outreach and PR - Our event is global and timely. It's all online and here's what that means for you:
    • a. During the past two Interior Design Summits, we had attendees from US, Canada, UK, New Zealand, Africa, Ireland, etc. The Green Design Summit is a hot topic that specifically teaches the attendees, your target market, why and how to promote sustainable products.
    • b. The Summit sponsorship is efficient - you don't have to show up anywhere: pay for planes, hotels, show expenses or staffing.
    • c. And it's a way that shows you're walking your talk. The summit is green - carbon neutral. All audio content is delivered by webinar, webcast or teleseminar, and all materials are delivered digitally after the event.
  3. Halo Effect - The Green Design Summit is about participating in something that is bigger than you. And, it's about doing good and knowing that others care that you're supporting them and an important cause while selling your products.

About Greensburg, Kansas
And why they are the Green Design Summit Charity

We've made the decision to help the town of Greensburg, Kansas as a part of our first Green Design Summit. Two years ago today, 95% of the town was demolished with a tornado. They decided just two days after this devastating event to build a model green town.

"We believe our ancestors had the great forethought to name the town Greensburg, and that we have a higher calling…to inspire hope in others through our decision to rebuild as a totally green community," said Mayor Dixson.

5% of our proceeds will be earmarked for Greensburg's public building projects. We'll are also soliciting material donations from sponsors for these projects. Small towns like this are struggling for survival, and the vision and determination of these amazing people to build a model green town is a perfect example of how a simple idea can touch so many people.

Ironically, May 4, 2009 is the 2 year anniversary of the tornado, and it is also my husband's and my 18th wedding anniversary. My husband and I went to Greensburg on May 2 to celebrate with the townspeople as they dedicated the first LEED Platinum John Deere dealership. The Estes family that built this building also announced the creation of BTI Wind Energy which represents Canada's Endurance Corporation, a manufacturer of wind turbines.

Mayor Dixson also says, "We'd like to see Greensburg become the ecotourism capital of the world. Companies can bring their customers here to see sustainable building products and all kinds of eco-friendly businesses. We want to be a living laboratory."

We were so inspired by the Greensburg residents, and we want to help them with their mission to be an example for the world. We'll share more of their story during the next few months as we get closer to the Summit.
