ASID and IIDA Boards of Directors Hold Joint Meeting

WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 13, 2008) – The Boards of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) and the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), met recently to discuss the future of the Interior Design profession and issues that face each organization and their Members.

The historic meeting marks the first time that the full Board leadership of the two organizations have met.

ASID and IIDA will maintain a collaborative approach to joint initiatives that support the profession of Interior Design, and continue their dialogue about expanding opportunities for increased interaction.

“It was an historic occasion…and more to the point, we got some positive first steps accomplished – and set in motion some collaborative ideas that certainly make sense in today’s changing marketplace,” according to Bruce Brigham, FASID, President of the ASID Board of Directors

“This first meeting was a very important step in understanding our common goals and identifying potential opportunities for collaboration between the two associations. Collectively moving forward, the associations will continue to explore ideas that will shape the future of design for our members,” said Mitchell Sawasy, FIIDA, AIA, President of the IIDA Board of Directors.

About ASID: The American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) is a community of people—designers, industry representatives, educators and students—committed to interior design. Its more than 40,000 members engage in a variety of professional programs and activities through a network of 48 chapters throughout the United States and Canada. www.asid.org. ASID is the Founding Sponsor of InformeDesign (www.informedesign.umn.edu), a searchable database that enables designers to engage in evidence-based design by using Research Summaries focused on design and human behavior, created and operated by the University of Minnesota
