by Houston, Texas sculptor, Ben Woitena Next time you take a drive to Houston's Memorial Park.....look for Ben Woitena's metal sculpture titled "3/4 Time" amidst the wildflower area where Memorial meets Woodway....near the west entrance of the park. And don't miss his sculpture at Bush Intercontinental Airport, Terminal E titled "Time Line". "The imagism in my sculptures, wall constructions, and drawings are influenced by an exploration of the essential nature of the medium, their suggestibility, and the processes utilized in combining dissimilar shapes. The process for sculptures in metal involves the direct manipulation of materials with structural steel forms and flame-cut drop outs altered by torch cutting and machining, and further refined by hand. However, surface and color solutions finalized in the sculptures were initially explored in drawings. Paint and patination were applied to shapes to emphasize, define, enhance, contrast, or chromatically contradict surfaces. The power of the accumulative materials evolves into a gestural presence: an immediate sense perception of form laden with symbolic significance. The objects are abstract constructions - the imagery, subjective." Meet Ben Woitena at the upcoming "SCULPTURE NOW" exhibit at the Williams Tower Gallery.....see the "Upcoming Events" section of this newsletter for details. Ben Woitena's sculptures, wall constructions, and drawings are available for sale at AccessoryHut.com or you may contact Ben Woitena directly through the Directory of Artists section of AccessoryHut.com's on-line gallery.
by Glendale, Arizona artist,
Nick Franco. "I have been working on a series of paintings titled the Thread Paintings since 2003. This collection of work delicately rests on the line between the ridged, graphic elements of design and the expressive, painterly brush strokes of Abstract Expressionism. These two elements have always been in conflict within my work, but now they are forced to coexist. They must be separate, but equal, being held together by the tightest of threads."
by Hollywood, California photographer, Ted Street. "I was born in 1946 in New York City, and grew up from the age of 2 months in Huntsville, Texas. I moved to Hollywood, California in 1969 where I have worked as a carpenter since 1972. I got interested in photography a couple of years ago, read some books, bought an SLR and found out my photos were pretty good. I am currently taking the Professional Photography course at the New York Institute of Photography."
Born 1968 in New York City

Ann Bell will teach "Experimental Surfaces in Watercolor" on Friday afternoons at the Watercolor Art Society - Houston (WAS-H) building located at 1601 W. Alabama at Mandell beginning in September. This class will increase your creativity by teaching you to paint on non-traditional surfaces that encourage spontaneity. It is suitable for all skill levels. Advance registration is required. For more information, call Ann Bell, 281-330-3827. Pictured here is Ann Bell's watercolor Giclee titled "Sun-dappled Path".
Pictured here is Houston, Texas artist, Ann Bell's "Pathway to a Dream". Simply put, watercolor is a painting compound using water-soluble pigments that are either transparent or opaque. Because of the medium itself as well as the paper to which it is applied, watercolor is frequently thought of as a fugitive medium. Not so! While watercolor may not rival oils for durability and longevity, it is a medium that has a very durable and distinguished history and, clearly, a healthy future.
by our Celebrated Yesterday's Artist, Rockwell Kent. (1882 - 1971) - An Artist, Author, and Political Activist. Pictured here is a charger titled "Salamina" designed for Vernon Kilns by the famous Rockwell Kent. The "Salamina" pattern is the most sought after and in demand pattern of all Vernon Kilns designs which is handpainted under the glaze. This design was adapted by Mr. Kent from his own book especially for Vernonware. Kent was in search of peace and simple contentment away from a world that had become stale and senseless to him. And so out this journey to and life in Greenland grew a book. A book that in words and pictures told of the incredible glory of the Arctic and Beautiful Salamina. Probably the most romantic and adventurous story ever attached to a dinnerware! If you would like to read more about Rockwell Kent you can view a link to the Plattsburgh University of New York's Rockwell Kent Gallery & Collection from the "LINKS " page of AccessoryHut.com under the category of "Artist and Designer Links"
Attention Designers: Email us at Shop@AccessoryHut.com to let the artists know what's hot. What's the hottest color? What art medium sells the best? We will post your remarks in an upcoming newsletter with a link to your website in exchange for tips for the artists.
Compliments of American Society of Interior Designers Like most Americans, you are probably entertaining more at home. If so, is your home “guest friendly”? Have you noticed that certain members of your family or friends always have excuses not to attend your holiday gatherings, barbecues or other social events? Don’t take the excuses personally. It likely isn’t you or your party-throwing abilities. Instead, it may be your living environment. Your home may be designed to adequately meet your daily needs, but what about the special needs of visitors? Although you might be of excellent health with no physical limitations, the same may not be true for some of your friends and family, for instance an elderly aunt, a friend recuperating from a stroke, a son recovering from a broken leg, a pregnant daughter-in-law or a grandchild with cerebral palsy. To determine if your home is guest friendly, the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) recommends that you ask yourself these following questions:
1) Does your home have at least one “barrier-
free” entrance without steps and with an easy to-
open door? Qualified interior designers are educated and trained to ask these questions and answer them effectively to create functional and beautiful living spaces. ASID interior designers can offer solutions to ensure that your home—from the front door to the back patio—is appealing to everyone from an accessibility standpoint. The applications are transparent. Most visitors won’t even realize that the solutions are incorporated in the design. Instead, guests will feel very comfortable in your home and not understand why. By working with an interior designer you will be certain your home will be designed to enhance the experiences of all of your guests, no matter their age and/or abilities. As a result, you will be able to entertain more successfully. In fact, the only future “problem” you could encounter in regards to entertaining will be too many guests at your gatherings - and no repeat excuses for not attending! To locate a qualified interior designer in your community, check out the free ASID Referral Service at www.interiors.org. To learn more about universal design and how to choose and work with an interior designer, visit the ASID Web site at www.asid.org.

Artist Vicky Brago-Mitchell melds a diversity of culture and thought into her series of fractal artwork. The work is empowered by both technology and formal insight. Using high-end graphics software and digital printing, she produces works that embody great precision, scale and abstraction. The fractal patterns found in her work are based on mathematical structures found in nature. Nautilus shapes, patterning, and symmetry are created with a digital finesse, but demonstrate artistic improvisation as well.

AccessoryHut.com will be featured in the upcoming Winter issue of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID) ICON Magazine that will be published November 2006. When AccessoryHut.com opened its virtual doors to the public on February 1, 2006, the gallery also opened the doors of art studios throughout the country. The on-line gallery strategically brings the artists and interior designers together via directories and promotions to the design industry. Its artist members take advantage of the site's article and electronic newsletter promotions and are given the option to utilize the gallery's shopping cart capabilities. Interior designers are asked to keep the gallery's artist members in mind when seeking art for their design projects in exchange for their complimentary listings in the Directory of Interior Designers. Viewers can also learn about art history through the gallery's links to art galleries & museums throughout the world. The gallery's slogan, "Home Decor with Yesterday's and Today's Artists in Mind" was conceived because of the gallery owner's love of early to mid-20th century pottery and ceramic collecting which is displayed as groupings within the gallery. Gallery owner, Alice Krueser, explains that "Our goal is to encourage the purchase of decorative artwork that displays artistic value and/or historical meaning instead of mass produced artwork so widespread on the market today. We support and promote all levels of artists". Pictured here (photo by onioncreekstudio.com) are two pieces of exotic wood hand turned by highly skilled, San Antonio, Texas artist and member of the gallery, Terance Ramos. Whether you are seeking artwork designed and/or created by yesterday's or today's artists.....you'll find it at www.AccessoryHut.com or call 713-816-7400.
