Our "Progressive Thinking" artists are placed at the forefront of our monthly newsletter that is delivered via email to our growing list of interior designers, art collectors, and the general public. Please help us promote our artists by forwarding this newsletter to all of your email contacts. See "forward email" below. Please welcome our newest member, Salli Babbitt of Houston, Texas. Look for our exciting, growing list of "Progressive Thinking" artists who understand the importance of online exposure. If you are an artist, check out our new membership fee structure.....it's easier to understand. Remember, all artists can take advantage of using the shopping cart whenever they want. Just let us know and we will provide you with a shopping cart agreement. Take advantage of this tool. It's included in your membership. In order to strategically bring designers together with our artist members, we are excited to announce the new section of the site for the ASID Interior Designers to post their contact information with a link to their website. All we ask is that the ASID members keep our artists in mind when accessorizing their next home or office. Designers who are interested in being included in the directory may send a request via email to shop@accessoryhut.com. Attention Designers - Looking for accessories? Why not consider the work of our Texas Artists Terance Ramos, who creates vessels with wood and glass, Lynda Wilson, who creates beautiful batiks, and Salli Babbitt, who creates and teaches several styles of painting and mixed media. The artists who are Members of the Directory pay no gallery commissions, giving the designer and the general public the opportunity to purchase art directly from the artists and giving the artist their much needed online exposure to assist them in selling their artwork. It's a win, win relationship! ![]() Alice Krueser, AccessoryHut.com

Lynda Wilson of Van Alstyne, Texas is a fabulous batik artist who was recently featured on the "Texas Country Reporter" television show. Below is what Lynda has to say about her batik process. Batik is the ancient art of creating designs on fabric using a dye and wax process. I apply color and wax at the same time by painting on white cotton with very hot colored wax. I use a variety of brush sizes and shapes. When the cotton is completely saturated with colored wax cracks, the dye takes that space making an interesting patterning effect and naturally outlining shapes in the design. The fabric is then ironed to remove most of the wax. This process is time consuming, messy and always a surprise because you never know exactly how each step in the process will effect the completed piece. I do my own designs, sketches and finish work. There are so many beautiful colors, patterns and shapes to work with that it fills my time with joy and satisfaction. It is my hope that you too will feel joy and satisfaction when living with by Batiks.
San Antonio, Texas artist,Terance Ramos, creates unique vessels by combining colorful glass with wood. His motto: "Art is philosophy put into action, not an end result of a task, but a completion of an idea". These vessels can be custom ordered with a color of the buyer's choice. Harding Black (b.1912 d.2004) San Antonio, Texas Harding Black produced pots for over 60 years. He was self taught with no formal training in either ceramics or chemistry. He was often described as the glaze master and called a walking ceramics encyclopedia and was always willing to share his knowledge with anyone who showed interest. With no equipment and no knowledge, he began to learn by trial and error to make what finally resulted in beautiful art pottery always using native Texas clay. Harding started to study the making of ceramics following an archeological expedition to the Big Bend country of Texas during the depression. In 1932 he joined the Witte Museum Archaeological Society where he had access to their collections of Native American pottery. Harding was able to use space at the Witte where he constructed a wheel and in 1933 was appointed ceramic instructor and given the responsibility of establishing a ceramics department. His first kiln was built using plans obtained from Newcomb College. In the 50s he left the Witte and built his own studio where he produced his wonderful art. The body of his work is a living tribute to his lifelong love of ceramics. He spent his life producing pots and occasionally taking time off to do a bit of fishing. After endless testing, he would successfully duplicate the magnificent glazes of Chinas Sung and Ming dynasties. His work has been exhibited at a long list of museums and galleries including the Smithsonian Institute and was noted as the San Antonio Art League artist of the year in 1987. In 1984 the Southwest Craft Center gave him a grant to take care of his needs while he devoted a year to Porcelain and its glazes. In 1991 he was elected an honorary member of the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts. Exhibited at the Nationals from 1947 1954 and 1958.
San Jose Pottery (1920s 1940s) San Jose Pottery was established in San Antonio, Texas during the 1920s by Cecil Beck. Located one block south of Mission San Jose, the commodious factory had areas to prepare the clay and mold the pottery and tiles. One room was filled with round tables to seat young women who traced designs and applied the glazes that decorated the bisque-fired wares. Male workers assigned to cubicles in an adjoining room sprayed glazes onto wares that did not require detailing. The company had a kiln capable of firing 2,000 pieces at a time. In a separate area, workers prepared the wares for shipping and sale. Since Beck had no business experience or knowledge of pottery, the business soon faltered and he turned to Ethel Wilson Harris for help. In 1934 Harris was named president and given shares in the company, which for two years she ran simultaneously with her Mexican Arts and Crafts operation downtown. Therefore, collectors can find quality designs that were later copyrighted by Mexican Arts and Crafts in 1937, but marked with the paper labels or back stamps of San Jose Pottery. When Becks mother meddled in her business decisions, Harris resigned. Harris subsequently took action to refrain the company from producing her copyrighted designs without her permission and supervision. In 1941 the New York firm of Michaelian and Kohlberg bought and owned San Jose Pottery until it caught fire in 1945.
