The artists who are Members of the Directory pay no gallery commissions, giving the designer and the general public the opportunity to purchase art directly from the artists and giving the artist their much needed online exposure to assist them in selling their artwork. It's a win, win relationship! ![]() Alice Krueser, AccessoryHut.com

mid-century modern DaVinci Actually, Sascha arrived in Cleveland, Ohio (in 1918) as Samuel Brostofsky. An early aptitude for art lead him to The Clay Club in New York City's Greenwich Village. With fellow alumni Louise Nevelson and Isamu Noguchi, he concentrated on his primary love for highly imaginative and detailed sculpting. Mass production of ashtrays and decorative household items were farthest in his mind. I feel some of the finest work he ever created was during these early years (1938 to 1945.) When not at school, Sascha made a living designing window displays for the famed Macy's Department Store in Herald Square. In 1940, his first (and only) one man show (at the Clay Club's Sculpture Gallery), showcased 37 original hand sculpted terra cotta "Whimsies." A huge success, as all of these sold to prestigious New York collectors. Today, only three have known to survive (Sascha's family retained "Europa and the Bull"; Brastoff biographer Steve Conti has "Mermaid" and "Tumblers.")

Watercolor Art Society-Houston Announces Grand Opening of New Facility Susan Giannantonio, Capital Campaign Chairman of WAS-H notes, that we are just weeks away from occupying the new building with increased space for both shows and classes. The Grand Opening in May will be a celebration of the efforts to fund and build the facility. We raised over $500,000, and are thankful to the many supporters of our Capital Campaign. To the best of our knowledge, WAS-H has the only facility in the country built and dedicated to the medium of watercolor. Funding for this new watermedia exhibition/education facility, The Jack Bowen Building, has been provided by The Brown Foundation, Houston Endowment, Jack and Annis Bowen Foundation, Harry S. and Isabel C. Cameron Foundation, The Fondren Foundation, Albert and Ethel Herzstein Charitable Foundation and the many members and friends of the Watercolor Art SocietyHouston. Nearly 100% of WAS-Hs members supported this endeavor. The modern two story structure will serve as a hub for the numerous programs sponsored by WAS-H including art education, community outreach and ongoing art shows. The building replaces a converted home that has served WAS-H for the past 12 years. A rendering of the building by builder ArchCon Corporation is pictured above. Founded in 1975, the Watercolor Art Society Houston (WAS-H) is a non-profit organization with over 500 members. For over 30 years, WAS-H has brought the excitement of water-media to the greater Houston area with outstanding exhibitions, world-class instruction and dedicated community outreach. Year-round opportunities are provided to every level of painter, from novice to the seasoned expert. Art lovers can also enjoy year-round exhibitions both at important business district venues and at our home gallery. The Watercolor Art Society-Houston Announces the Amperstand Clayboard Fund-Raiser and Reception. The Watercolor Art Society-Houston (WAS-H) is pleased to announce the Amperstand Clayboard Fundraiser beginning April 4th thru the 29th. Thanks to Amperstands generous donation, 100 WAS-H members are painting and donating watermedia works on Amperstands Clayboards. The works will be on display the month of April at WAS-H at 1601 West Alabama, and for sale at $150 . A silent auction will also be held for works by nationally known artists. The reception and close of the silent auction will be Saturday, April 29 from 6:00PM to 8:00 PM at 1601 West Alabama. The public is invited to view the works and celebrate the first show in the new WAS- H facility. Linda Swaynos, show chairperson notes that we are excited to be in the new building with additional space for shows and classes. As far as I know, we have the only facility in the country built and dedicated to the medium of watercolor.
Herb Alperts Spirit Totems Strolling down Greene Street early one morning in Pasadena, California - on my way to the LA Pottery Show and their they stood! Four magnificent bronze sculptures towering over the plazas concrete pavers casting shadows from the early morning sun. It was an omen! Just before leaving for the trip I had conjured up the idea of launching a Public Sculpture Photo Contest at AccessoryHut.com and here it was! The photo shoot opportunity of the work of a music icon and artist. A great artist biography to kick off the contest was right before my very eyes. The next morning, very early, I strolled back down the street with camera and tripod in hand. Mission accomplished! The Public Sculpture Photo Contest is officially under way. Pictured here is Herb Alperts Eagle bronze that measures 54 X 74. You remember Herb Alpert dont you? From the band Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass! Below is some information that was posted alongside the sculptures: A music icon who is world renowned for his extraordinary career, Alpert has worked as a painter since the 1960s and as a sculptor for more than 20 years. His work has been shown in various galleries and museums around the world. Spirit Totems: Herb Alpert Sculpture 1995 2005 brings together his recent body of work, Spirit Totems, which was unveiled this past October in New York Citys famed Bryant Park and features other sculptures from the past decade. The exhibition is installed in open-air public spaces throughout the city of Pasadena: The Pasadena Museum of California Art roof top terrace, The Pasadena Civic Auditorium Plaza, and the Paseo Colorado, an outdoor shopping and dining space. Enter
your public sculpture photo by May 1, 2006 and get a chance to win $250
cash if your photo receives the most votes. Registration and contest rules are
posted at the site.
