ART MEDIUM:

Pastel
Paintings
Mixed Media

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

I approach the easel with the intent to compose from memories, images "in my mind's eye". Once I start a "series" of a specific image, I build upon those thoughts with new variations, just as Monet did in his "Haystacks" series. My paintings are not of a specific scene, but are of a sense of place, in a moment of time. My major art medium is pastel and I also work with mixed media. My art career has included the mediums of oil, watercolor and acrylic. I consider myself a colorist, having studied with the greatest American landscape colorist, Wolf Kahn. My intention is to involve the viewer with lively, expressive strokes of the pastel stick. Color and light are my tools, using both to create mood and emotional impact.

ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY:

I have lived in North Dakota most of my life and grew up in the countryside, where I gained many lasting impressions of the landscape to influence my work. I am a graduate of the U of North Dakota and have had extensive studies with nationally known artists as my career progressed.

CURRENT WORK:

My images are impressionist landscapes. In addition to working with pastel, I have gone back to the brush, also and am creating mixed media paintings and mixed media collage paintings on canvas, mostly of an abstract nature. Another new method is creating pastels on canvas, sealed with varnish!

CAREER BACKGROUND:

I have been a producing artist for 40 years, exhibiting in galleries, museums and art festivals. The last 22 years I have traveled to art festivals across the US such as the Old Town in Chicago, the Coconut Grove in Miami, St. Louis Art Festival, Reston Art Fair, Kansas City Plaza and the Minneapolis Uptown, just to mention a few. My representation in art galleries have included Edgewood Orchard, Door County, WI; Art Resources Gallery, St. Paul, MN; Tamarack Gallery, Stillwater, MN; Leslie Levy, Scottsdale, AZ ; the Max Gallery, Tucson, AZ and others. I am a signature member of the Pastel Society of America. Editions Limited represents me in their giclee division, Drybrush.
