ART MEDIUM:

Photography-Based Contemporary Art

ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY:

An Ohio native, he has been influenced by his Appalachian roots, his travels and where he has lived in North Carolina, Washington DC, Dallas, and Laguna Beach. Since 2007, he has resided in St Petersburg, Florida. His work can be found in private homes in Highland Park (Dallas), Chicago, Laguna Beach and Georgetown.

His work can be viewed online at www.5thworldart.com. His writing can be viewed at www.dalpress.com. He has completed his first work of prose called, Selected Works from Reconnecting With Life.

As a child, his parents enrolled him in art classes at the city art center. He continued to develop in the public school's art program. Several of his works were selected for the Dayton Art institute's children exhibit. He continued to take classes abandoned his goal to become a commercial artist.

While cubism and abstract art were his early influences, he had always been drawn to geometrics and their palettes found in both nature and inanimate objects. They offer such wonderful geometrics and color and served as the inspiration.

In his twenties he purchased a Nikon FG and explored this medium as a self-taught photographer. However, his creativity was looking for an outlet, which he found in Internet design, marketing and operations. After being laid off in 2001 he began to organize his photography collection and explored writing of vignettes and prose.

While in Laguna Beach in early 2007, he returned from the evening surf and found inspiration while organizing the past month's photos. He created the style that he calls Kaleidoscopography. Over the next eighteen months, he honed the technique and has created several collections and design studies, which includes the Popping Palm Seed Pod Collection.

In 2007, he traveled to Zurich and came across Gottfried Honegger's sculpture Volume 18. He admired the sculpture and took the photograph. While reviewing the image, he was drawn into the textures, tones and patterns. Then the inspiration hit and the Zurich Collection was born.

By late 2008, he focused on completing the collections and design studies, while releasing and exhibiting early works. By mid-2009, he had completed the collections and design studies and was focusing on the business and marketing the photography and contemporary art.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

Organic and inanimate objects serve as the inspiration because they offer such wonderful geometrics and color. Hence, my photography is the base-medium for two unique contemporary art styles presented in this catalog.

PHOTOGRAPHY:

A visual experience that reaches beyond the realm of traditional photography. The work uses natural light and encompasses a broad subject matter and visual spectrum. The work is about discovering what people miss in their daily travels. Then I use the lens to capture the image so your eyes and mind see this perspective.

CONTEMPORARY ART:

Photography is the base-medium for three unique styles: Kaleidoscopography, Zurich and Natural Patterns. These use the image's natural tones and hues to create an energy that is attractive to both the mind and spirit. The work reaffirms that color and imagery can capture your interest without being based upon a medium that is computer generated. The work has produced several design studies and collections.

(1) KALEIDOSCOPOGRAPHY
Produces vibrant patterns that are rich with the original image's color, hues and tonal properties. The style provides a visual experience that changes when you adjust your distance and visual angle. This work has also produced stunning designs for textiles and rugs. Three areas of Kaleidoscopography are design, transformations and Dallas Design District.

(2) ZURICH
Pushes the design envelope and color palette to produce work that is powerful, new and unique. By deft manipulation of color and image elements, the style inspires elegance, energy and passion.

(3) NATURAL PATTERNS
Use two techniques, extractions and textures, to create perspectives full of color and reach.

WRITING:

A published writer, he has contributed newspaper and business articles and written vignettes and prose. His latest work, Selected Works from Reconnecting With Life uses prose to reevaluate his journey and life's direction.

QUOTE:

"My belief is that perfection lies in discovering imperfection."
