ART MEDIUM:
Acrylic
ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
I am drawn to the images of the people and places in and around my native Texas. I bring to the work a snapshot of what I see and how I see the world around me. Scenes of everyday life at home or in my travels speak to me. Houses and shops that make up our past and current lives intrigue me.
I was interested in art from an early age and was mentored by my Grandfather, an accomplished photographer and painter. Earning my Bachelor of Fine Art at the San Francisco Art Institute, I developed my art in oil. Many years spent as a graphic designer has changed my perspective and my recent medium of preference is acrylics. I use the fast drying time of acrylics to achieve crisp results. While I do work in other mediums, such as pastels and linoprints, it's acrylics on canvas that captures most of my creative spirit.
When I begin a canvas I intend to create eye candy, to grab the eye and entertain it with color and form and geometry. My work has been described as fresh with intriguing color, deep contrast, and is labeled by most as contemporary realism. My paintings are my interpretation of the beauty in the ordinary world around us all.

ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY:
Melinda Patrick began developing her art when she was a very young child. Her paintings are her vision of the places she loves, the colorful cityscapes and ordinary people that catch her eye.
Recently two of Melinda's works were accepted into the prestigious 2009 National Exhibition of the Marin Society of Artists. The show was juried by Scott Schields, PhD, Chief Curator of the Crocker Art Museum in Sacramento, California. Those works were exhibited during August at the Marin Art & Garden Center in Ross, California.
Melinda's award winning paintings have been exhibited in a number of local and regional shows. A list of those shows just within the year would include Gallery Lazzara and the City Hall Annex in Houston, and the Live Oak Art Center 2009 juried show in Columbus, TX.
Melinda received her BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute. While in public school, she attended the scholarship class at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts. She lives in a pine forest near her native Houston.
