ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
Happy to have had career producing functional decorative wares for daily use.
ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY:
Born in 1947, Madison, IN. Early influence of Ohio River clay and Roseville pottery supplied by milkman.
Stetson University with Art and Education majors, graduated in 1970.
Professors Robert Ebindorf and Fred Messersmith greatly impacted interest in crafts and painting.
Immediately moved to Charlotte, North Carolina and happened to be offered position of "thrower" in third generation rural production pottery.
For next 14 years threw for 10 potters, (usually 3-4 potteries in same week) including Jugtown, Owens, and Bluebird potteries of the Owens family in Seagrove, NC.
Since graduation working on own wares doing variety of commercial shows and exhibits but did not enter competitions.
Opened Cooper Mays gallery and pottery in 1984, near Chapel Hill, North Carolina until 2006.

At this time exhibited at the Philadelphia Buyers market of American Craft for several years.
Relocated to Costa Rica in 2006 and opened new gallery and studio, December 2007. Producing the same porcelain tableware and functional porcelain with more color options.
Intrigued and continuing to explore natural color combinations that communicate and comfort.
