ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

The ideas within my work are directly connected with the materials and the placement of the piece I am working with. I become one with the materials and their characteristics. The context helps me work out a lot of early decisions such as scale, proportion, color, value and the movement within the work.

There could be relatively fast improvisations using watercolor and gold leaf, or very large scale pieces that are far more planned and organized.

Live models are a regular part of the more time consuming work and they play a major role as actors in the creative process. The materials for these works are oil/acrylic/conte, or in three dimensions: clay for casting.

I experience the process of making art as a layering of different frames of mind. My way of seeing alters as the work progresses, as more ideas and reflections inform the work. This layering of concepts has a tendency to deepen the meanings contained within the work. It also encourages flexibility in the process of making and it becomes very enjoyable to do.
