ART MEDIUM:
Oil
ARTIST'S STATEMENT:
Painting seems to free my creative spirit. Floral still lifes present a simple framework from which any number of outcomes can be explored. I start with a notion of opposing elements: the elements can be opposites on the color wheel or perhaps something light and something dark. I love how brilliantly colored petals look against dull grays. As an avid watcher of the latest trends in design and fashion, I thrive on clever color combinations and interesting negative spaces. But nothing thrills me more than a intuitive composition that satisfies traditional standards and serves as salve for my inner design junkie. ...and if my painting looks good with your sofa, I consider it a bonus. (:
ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY:
Diane Hoeptner (hep-ner) is a former 17 year resident of Los Angeles who now enjoys the changing seasons "back home" in Northeast Ohio. She lives with her husband and two cats in Tremont, just outside of Cleveland .
Oil painting is still relatively new to her, but making art is not. She enjoyed several years as a digital animator for video games and the film industry when she lived in Los Angeles. She holds a BA in Studio Art from California State University , Northridge.
Diane has taught drawing at an East LA community college and she served as Special Events Coordinator for the Culver City ART group. It was during employment at a
fine art publishing company in the late 80's that she became acquainted with many successful fine artists, a few of whom she idolized. It was at that time, she gleamed a notion to make a living from making paintings.
Her first year of fulltime painting resulted in numerous regional awards. Posters of her florals were later published as posters. Editions Limited continues to publish her paintings today. Hand signed giclees of her water lily paintings have been offered through the SAKS Fifth Ave catalogue. Ann Kullberg, color pencil guru published lesson packs detailing Diane's techniques... Contributions of Diane's art have benefited the American Heart Association, the International Bird Rescue and Research Center of San Pedro, CA and more recently the Geauga County Humane Society in Ohio .
"Color pencil artist meets oil paints (again.) I learned how to paint in oils in college and promptly abandoned them upon graduation
In 2008, I became inspired by the Daily Painters Movement and decided to try oils again. Daily Painters vow to paint at least one small painting every day. A 1940's Pinocchio doll was my first subject. The practice of daily painting has forced remarkable improvements in my abilities and I feel like I've found a vast uncharted territory! My favorite subject to date is flowers."
