ART MEDIUM:

Mixed Media
Painting

ARTIST'S STATEMENT:

My works are transcribes of reality; riddled with the surreal images that inundate my conscious and subconscious. Subjects and concepts constantly evolve with interests; varying from introspective narratives to esoteric commentaries. Mixed media acrylics combined with collage assemblages, text, iconography, found objects and anything I get my hands on, are my palette's choice; broadening the gambit of communicative approaches from speed and instinctive improvisation to methodical premeditation. Influences are Abstract Expressionism, Abstract Surrealism, Futurism, Cubism and Pop Art; style is incidental to the message.

ARTIST'S BIOGRAPHY:

A conceptualist and student of design, Christian Perkins is a native of New Orleans, Louisiana who dually resides both in his hometown and his residence in Houston, Texas. Christian was born into a family rich in Jazz and hometown tradition. His grandfather, Alvin Alcorn played trumpet with Kid Ory and Papa Celestin; his uncle Sam Alcorn, played trumpet with Duke Ellington's band; and his godfather, Ellis Marsalis, is Wynton Marsalis' father. He attended De La Salle High School and later studied Advertising Art, at Prairie View A&M University . Although initial interests and pursuits dictated a career in graphic design, fine art has always been the artist's true passion.

While in college, he studied painting and design under Rev. Dr. Clarence Talley. It is here that the artist's earlier works, which predominantly entailed pen and ink, pencil renderings and collages, would become a continuing exploration of color, emotion and individual imagination. In all of his creat ions, Christian strives to create works that are exemplary of the life giving energy that emanates from everyone and everything. His works are sold to both private and corporate buyers, both locally and nationally.
