Wildflower
by Laurie Svec

I was raised in Corvallis, Oregon and attended Oregon State University, Central Texas College, and later, Houston Community College to acquire an Associate Degree focusing on commercial art. I am a member of the Watercolor Art Society Houston, The Houston Egg Art Guild, and WIVLA (Women in Visual and Literary Arts). I am a watercolor artist and enjoy doing craft work and writing childrens stories. A few of my stories have been published. My love for nature is incorporated into my art, pet portraits, flower and landscape paintings, photography, and using egg shells as an art and craft medium.
Wildflower is a beautiful reclining cow munching on wildflowers and her bright white coat is covered in 16 different varieties of colorful Texas wildflowers. The varieties are: bluebonnets, coreopsis, Indian paintbrush, Indian blanket, showy primrose, prairie rose, baby Texas blue eyes, Texas stars, winecups, meadow pink, field poppy, Mexican poppy, Mexican hat, common sunflower, purple coneflower, and morning glory. Wildflower has a few butterflies scattered among her wildflowers and a brass hoop earring in her left ear. I believe that she is Ferdinand the Bulls lady love.
I was inspired to do my Wildflower design for the Cow Parade Houston by an artistically minded friend in El Paso who encourages me to try new things. She has many creative thoughts and ideas that she passes on to me. The one wonderful idea of hers that led me to my design was an artistic enhancement of wedding invitations. Wildflower Wedding Invitations use the original wedding invitation and flowers that are painted around the text on the invitation. With my friends idea, and practice, I decided that I could paint my cow in wildflowers.
